Mt. Fuji is the most symbolic mountain of all Japan, enticing travelers from all over the world to climb her. Luckily, she is also known as an easier mountain to climb to the top. If you are currently planning on climbing to the top of Japan, below you will find details on the best options for submitting our extraordinary mountain.

Climbing Basics

Climbing Season for 2019:

Yoshida Trail:1 July – 10 September
Subashiri,Gotemba,Fujinomiya Trail:10 July – 10 September
*The open/close times may change subject to weather and trail conditions.

The mountain trek starts from Fujinomiya 5th station to Shin-Fuji. Mt. Fuji climbs can be done in either one-day or two-day climbs. For climbers submitting in two days, there are accommodations on the mountain that include options for meals.

Note: It is not recommended to summit the mountain during the off-season due to weather. Over night accommodations and buses to the mountain are not operating during the off-season. Should mountaineers still wish to summit, they will need to secure transportation to the mountain.

Heights: 3776m
Climbing length: From 5th station to the top: 4.3km (altitude 2400m-3776m)
Duration: Climbing up 5.5hrs going down 4hrs

 

Overnight Accommodations:

¥5500/night (no meal)
¥6500/night (includes breakfast)
¥7500/night (includes breakfast and dinner)

All accommodation have extra ¥1000 charge on Saturday nights.

How to Get to the 5th Station

By Bus

Taxi (Recommended)

Taxi for up to 4 people: ¥9890
Big taxi for up to 9 people: ¥15480

Car (Recommended)

Park your car at Mizukatsuka park (¥1000/24hrs)
Take a bus from the car parking to 5th station (¥1800 for round trip, available 6 AM – 8 PM)

Single Day Climb

6:06 AM take a train from Fuji to Fujinomiya
6:35 AM take a bus from Fujinomiya to 5th station
8:00 AM start climbing
1:30 PM get to the top (celebrate, it was a good hike!)
1:45 PM start descending
5:45 PM get to 5th station
5:30 PM take a bus from 5th station to Shin-Fuji
7:27 PM arrive at Shin-Fuji Station

“Option”

7:00 PM take a bus from 5th station to Fujinomiya
8:17 PM arrive at Fujinomiya
8:32 PM take a train from Fujinomiya to Fuji

 

Recommended Overnight Climbing Schedule

-Day 1-

9:55 AM take a bus from Fuji to 5th station
12:00 PM arrive at 5th station
2:00-4:00 PM check into accommodation at station

-Day 2-

1:00-2:00am restart climbing
3:00 am get to the top
5:00 am see the earliest sunrise in Japan (Called “Goraiko”)
7:00 am start descending the mountain
12:00 am arrive at 5th station
12:30 am take a bus to Fuji
